Saint Valentine's Day

Purple Flower

Today is Valentine’s Day and ok, it has probably turned into something very commercial and tacky but let’s not lose sight of the underlying message, which is all about love. Life can be tough at times, so what’s wrong with a day that celebrates something nice like love even if it has been hijacked by commercial interests.

Kind of on the subject of romance, last night I was a bit wrecked so I sat down in front of the tv and watched “You’ve Got Mail.” For some reason, I really like romantic comedies; maybe I’m just a sucker for the inevitable happy ending. Anyway, what could be better than sitting in front of the tv enjoying something funny that makes you laugh out loud and feel good? Well, maybe one thing I suppose... to shamelessly paraphrase Jack... watching it with someone who makes you want to be a better man.

Valentine's Day You’ve Got Mail Romantic Comedies

you got mail has to be the worse movie ever shame on you!

No it's not... may not be the best movie ever... but definitely not the worst! :-)

Watch Before Sunset!! It's just wunderbar (plus I quite fancy myself as Julie Delpie's (sp.?) character). Her's is my ideal apartment...and I loves her clothes. And I love Ethan Hawke...and Paris

Barf! I always knew you were a sentimental git!

Says the boy who can't play football at 5:30pm because he has to rush home to do the Valentine's Day thing...

Yep. It's that one day of the year where everybody is all of a sudden gushing and effusive in their amorous gestures. And why? Because there's a bit of a lull between the Christmas madness and Easter bonanza. Oh, isn't modern society just wonderful.

You need a drink... or two! :-)

The old romantic films, like 'An Affair to Remember' beat the new ones like 'You've Got Mail' hands down. I went to see You've Got Mail in the cinema years ago and I remember being disappointed with it. I always had more of a soft spot for Sleepless in Seattle, maybe it has something to do with the An Affair to Remember reference!

Hang on now, everyone seems to have got the impression that I'm trying to say "You've Got Mail" is absolutely fantastic or something. I merely mentioned it because it happened to be the one on the tv when I sat down. My whole point was about romantic comedies in general, specifically about the fact that they're feel good and funny put together, which can't be bad! :-)

And think not you can
Direct the course of love,
For love,
If it finds you worthy,
Directs your course.

I think we'll leave the final word to Krista... doh! I just blew that notion by adding this comment! :-)

Dude! 'You've got mail' ?! That's sad!
But yes, there are much worse movies.
Now...what's it gonna be this year? A movie again? Just you or this time with someone who makes you want to be a better boy and eat your veggies...
